Meet Oddie, the webAR experience of the Floriade Expo 2022
On the facade of the Central Flores tower by Klunder Architecten is the enormous work of art ( see also sympoiesis.nl) of the facade turned inside out. This amazing webAR art experience was created in collaboration with the designers MVRDV, ArtTenders and artist Alex Verhaest.
Visitors to the Floriade Expo 2022 can immerse themselves in this floral ecstasy and meet the fluttering creature Oddie in a virtual arboretum. If you catch Oddie you will get the story of the artwork Sympoiesis.

As soon as we realized Oddie, the AR-application was of course extensively tested by the ArtTenders team ;).
the story behind Oddie
In Oddie’s world, the layers of the artwork and the relationship with the Floriade come to life. If you look at the floor plan in the webAR application you will see the master plan of the Floriade Expo 2022, designed by MVRDV.
Oddie takes you to a botanical world where the masterplan of the Floriade designed by MVRDV, the tower Flores and the artwork Sympoiesis with Augmented Reality come to life. Come and immerse yourself in the details of all the plants and flowers!
The webAR contains an arboretum that shows an enormous diversity of Dutch plants and flowers. And look: in the middle you see the tower, designed by Klunder Architects, with a facade full of plants. This facade is an artistic translation of the arboretum designed by MVRDV, Arttenders and Alex Verhaest as a permanent icon of the Floriade Expo 2022.

The tower has become the center of the Hortus. If you look around you, you will see that the work consists of hundreds of different plant species. Can you spot your favourite? Sympoiesis
MVRDV, Arttenders and Alex Verhaest created the coastal work Sympoiesis. The forty-three meters high artistic facade of the central tower of Floriade Expo 2022 is a brand new icon for the city of Almere and represents the plants and flowers from the arboretum surrounding the tower.
Both the title and the way in which the artwork is created represent the ultimate symbiosis of nature, people and technology. The central tower on the Floriade event site was designed by Klunder Architects. The master plan of the ten-year international horticultural expo was developed by Winy Maas of MVRDV. In this edition’s theme (Growing Green Cities), plants take over the tower that will house the festival’s staff. This tower will then become a residential building in the brand new Hortus district in Almere.
