AR Ponatinib: Augmented Reality Explains Leukemia

“AR Ponatinib ”is an Augmented Reality app designed for Incyte Biosciences. The AR app is available free of charge for smartphones and tablets using iOS or Android operating system.

Note: a free basic version of this Augmented Reality experience for patients and children is also available. This version provides an easier explanation of the process of Leukemia.

AR as an instrument for education

This Augmented Reality app is intended for use by healthcare professionals to visualize and explain the interaction between Ponatinib and the bcr-abl protein. The app was launched during a medical conference in combination with a specially designed exhibition stand.

Explanation:

The app explains scientifically how Ponatinib works with the help of 3D images. You see a protein (blue) and how a substance (ATP) settles in a mutating pocket. This process causes the release of a phosphorus compound. This in turn causes the production of too many white blood cells, part of the clinical picture of Leukemia. The floating molecule above the model is the Ponatinib, which attaches itself like a cork in a  bottle, stopping the process and stabilizing the whole. (Just explained in our own words 😉
